Trans-Sensory Music

TRANS-SENSORY MUSIC (2015)

Open Sources, the 2015 End of the Year Show, Media Arts and Technology, UCSB

A performance exploring cross-modal musical motifs in audio-tactile-kinetic composition. This piece explores the idea of trans-sensory music as advanced by film theorist Michel Chion. While his work has focused on this effect with audio-visual language in the context of film, this work investigates the potential of this effect when targeting audition and somatosensation in more abstract media.

This work is for voice and electroacoustic-somaesthetic music. Spatial panning occurs between loudspeakers and vibrotactile seating. Spatial tracking affects 3D panning among the 16 loudspeakers.
